5 Bridges of Transition
Bridge 1- The sharing of data on attainment, needs and curriculum studied. Also includes sharing information on friendship groups and appropriate groupings.
Bridge 2- Using information to inform class groupings and provide pastoral support to encourage the maintenance of existing friendships and encourage new ones.
Bridge 3- Aims to reduce repeating of curriculum. Examples include cross-phase projects and sharing of vocabulary and teaching resources. Learning profiles can be created in year 6 and be used to highlight strengths and weaknesses to new teachers.
Bridge 4- Creating a common language for discussing teaching and learning. Recognition and appreciation of differences between teaching and learning. Joint professional development and staff training sessions. Sharing policies between key stages to ensure continuity. Teachers sharing skills and knowledge to support each other as well as preparing students to ensure they are prepared for new ways of teaching and learning.
Bridge 5- Pupils are actively involved in the transition process, given time to voice their opinions and reflect upon the successes and barriers. Pupils to develop an understand to their preferred learning styles to share with their new teachers as well as details of their achievements and strengths. Parents/carers are given information and guidance to enable them to prepare their child for the transition to becoming a professional learner.
